Article: What's Your Perfect Autumn Nail Colour?

What's Your Perfect Autumn Nail Colour?

Autumn nail colours are different. They're moodier than summer, deeper than spring, and more interesting than anything you've worn since March, which is why I designed our Rediscover Autumn Winter collection with 13 shades that work for different personalities, skin tones, and the actual life you live between April and September.

Here's the thing.

I started Ezmio with my sisters and best friend because we were sick of brands launching seasonal collections that only worked for one skin tone or one aesthetic. Some women want rich plums. Others want soft greys. Some need a colour that works in corporate settings while others want something bold enough to wear to a wedding on the weekend. This collection covers all of that without making you buy six bottles you'll never use.

Who This Guide Is For

This is for anyone who looks at 13 autumn shades and has no idea which one suits them. It's for women who want a shade that complements their skin tone, fits their lifestyle, and doesn't make them look washed out or overdressed for their day-to-day life.

If you're happy picking colours randomly and seeing what happens, you don't need this guide. But if you've ever bought a trendy autumn shade only to realise it looks terrible on you, keep reading.

Choose Based on Your Skin Tone

Cool Undertones (Pink or Blue Base)

Purple Piper PurpleNail Polishes Purple Isla IndigoBlue Dahli Denim
Grey Giselle GreyGrey Charli Charcoal

You suit: Piper Purple, Isla Indigo, Dahli Denim, Giselle Grey, Charli Charcoal

Cool-toned skin looks best with purples and blues that have blue or purple undertones. Piper Purple is a rich, vibrant purple with blue or red undertones that creates a bold look on cool skin. Isla Indigo is navy with a slight deep purple undertone, which gives it more depth than standard navy and works beautifully on cool-toned hands.

Dahli Denim is your classic navy shade, perfect for everyday wear if you're not into bold nails. Giselle Grey is a deep grey with blue undertones that photographs beautifully on cool skin. Charli Charcoal is charcoal and navy combined, giving you the sophistication of grey with the depth of navy, which is perfect for cool undertones that can look washed out in pure grey.

Warm Undertones (Yellow or Golden Base)

Purple Perla PlumNail Polishes Purple Molly MulberryGreen Gia Green
Nail Polishes Green Mandy MilitaryGreen Carla Camo

You suit: Perla Plum, Molly Mulberry, Gia Green, Mandy Military, Carla Camo, Saryne Sage

Warm-toned skin needs earthy shades with red, brown, or muted undertones. Perla Plum is a purple with red undertones that works beautifully on warm skin because the red prevents it from looking too cool or harsh. Molly Mulberry is a deep red/black purple that's even richer and more dramatic if you want something bolder for events or evening wear.

Gia Green is a deep forest green that enhances golden undertones without looking garish. Saryne Sage is a subdued green with grey undertones, which makes it perfect for women who want autumn colour without looking like they're trying too hard.

Mandy Military is khaki with brown and grey undertones, resembling olive drab or camo patterns. Carla Camo is a green with brown and grey tones that's slightly bolder than Military but still earthy enough for warm skin. Both work brilliantly on warm skin and both last up to 2 weeks with proper prep, which means pushing back cuticles, buffing the nail surface, and using a dehydrator or alcohol prep pads before you apply the gel.

Neutral Undertones (Mix of Both)

You suit: Any shade in the collection, but greys are your secret weapon

Neutral skin can wear almost anything, but greys are where you shine because they don't pull warm or cool on you the way they do on other skin tones. We have four grey options: Gracie Grey, Giselle Grey, Ashlee Ash, and Charli Charcoal.

Grey Gracie GreyGrey Giselle GreyGrey Ashlee AshGrey Charli Charcoal

Gracie Grey is light grey with subtle shimmer that catches the light beautifully. Giselle Grey is deep grey with blue undertones that adds sophistication without being as dark as charcoal. Ashlee Ash is very dark grey, close to black but not quite, which is perfect if you love black nails but want to mix it up. Charli Charcoal is charcoal and navy combined, giving you the best of both worlds with depth and intensity.

All four looks sophisticated on neutral skin because there's no undertone clash to worry about, which means you can wear any of them to work, to events, or just because you feel like having grey nails for the next two weeks without overthinking it.

Choose Based on Your Lifestyle

Corporate or Professional Settings

Best shades: Dahli Denim, Saryne Sage, Giselle Grey, Ashlee Ash

Grey Giselle Grey

If you work in a corporate environment where bright nails would be inappropriate, these four are your safest options. Dahli Denim is classic navy that reads as "polished professional." Saryne Sage is subdued green with grey undertones that's sophisticated without being bold. Giselle Grey is deep grey with blue undertones that photographs well in meetings. Ashlee Ash is very dark grey that's elegant and timeless.

All four are subtle enough for client meetings but still give you the satisfaction of having done your nails properly instead of walking around with chipped regular polish that makes you look like you don't have your life together.

Creative or Casual Work

Best shades: Perla Plum, Piper Purple, Molly Mulberry, Isla Indigo, Gia Green, Charli Charcoal

Purple Perla PlumNail Polishes Purple Molly Mulberry

If your workplace doesn't care what colour your nails are, go deeper and richer. Perla Plum has red undertones that work beautifully in autumn without being obvious. Piper Purple is bold and vibrant with serious impact. Molly Mulberry is deep red/black purple that's iconic and dramatic. Isla Indigo is navy with purple undertones that's sophisticated without being "too much." Gia Green is deep forest green that's unexpected and luxurious. Charli Charcoal combines charcoal and navy for serious depth.

These shades all cure in under 60 seconds per coat with our UV/LED lamp and remove in under 5 minutes with our Gel Remover, which means you can change them weekly if you get bored easily, though most people wear them for the full 2 weeks because they don't chip or peel the way regular polish does.

Event-Focused (Weddings, Parties, Special Occasions)

Best shades: Molly Mulberry, Perla Plum, Piper Purple, Mandy Military, Giselle Grey, Charli Charcoal

Nail Polishes Purple Molly MulberryPurple Piper Purple
Grey Giselle Grey

For events, you want something rich enough to photograph well but not so trendy that it looks dated in photos six months from now. Molly Mulberry is deep red/black purple that's iconic and elegant, perfect for formal events. Perla Plum has red undertones that photograph beautifully. Piper Purple is bold and vibrant if you want drama. Mandy Military is khaki with earthy undertones that works with jewel-toned dresses. Giselle Grey is deep grey with blue undertones that's sophisticated and works with everything. Charli Charcoal is chic and bold, combining charcoal and navy for serious impact.

If you're doing your nails for an event, apply 2-3 coats depending on the colour, cure each coat for 60 seconds, and you're done. They'll last through the entire event, the afterparty, and the week after without chipping, which is the whole point of using gel instead of regular polish that chips the second you pick up your handbag.

Everyday Casual

Best shades: Saryne Sage, Dahli Denim, Mandy Military, Carla Camo, Ashlee Ash, Gracie Grey

Blue Dahli Denim
Grey Gracie Grey

For everyday life, you want something that works with jeans, works with activewear, works with whatever you throw on in the morning without thinking about it. Saryne Sage is subdued green with grey that's effortlessly sophisticated. Dahli Denim is classic navy that goes with everything. Mandy Military and Carla Camo are earthy greens that work with casual wardrobes. Ashlee Ash is very dark grey that's chic and timeless. Gracie Grey is light grey with shimmer that adds subtle glamour to everyday looks.

These are the shades you wear when you just want your nails to look done without making them the focal point of your outfit. They work. They last. They don't require you to plan your clothes around them.

Choose Based on Colour Preference (If You Already Know What You Want)

If You Love Purple

Options: Perla Plum, Piper Purple, Molly Mulberry

Perla Plum is purple with red undertones, reminiscent of a ripe plum fruit. Piper Purple is rich and vibrant with blue or red undertones, creating a bold and dramatic look. Molly Mulberry is the deepest option, a red/black purple that's iconic and elegant, named after Molly Ringwald because it captures understated 80s glamour. All three work as One Step Gel so you don't need a separate base or top coat, just the colour itself cured under the lamp.

If You Love Blue

Options: Isla Indigo, Dahli Denim, Charli Charcoal

Isla Indigo is navy with a slight deep purple undertone that adds sophistication and intrigue. Dahli Denim is classic navy inspired by denim jeans, with a slightly muted quality that resembles worn-in denim. Charli Charcoal combines charcoal and navy for a unique shade that's the perfect happy medium between black and navy. All three last up to 2 weeks and all remove easily with our Gel Remover in under 5 minutes.

If You Love Green

Options: Gia Green, Mandy Military, Carla Camo, Saryne Sage

Gia Green is deep forest green, luxurious and sophisticated for winter. Saryne Sage is subdued green with grey undertones, tranquil and elegant. Mandy Military is khaki with brown and grey undertones, resembling olive drab or military camo patterns. Carla Camo is green with brown and grey tones, bold and adventurous like jungle camouflage. If you can't decide between them, Saryne Sage is the most versatile because it works on every skin tone and in every setting from work to weekends.

If You Love Neutrals

Options: Gracie Grey, Giselle Grey, Ashlee Ash, Charli Charcoal

Four greys, four different vibes. Gracie Grey is light grey with subtle shimmer for a glamorous and refined look. Giselle Grey is deep grey with blue undertones, creating a multidimensional and intriguing colour. Ashlee Ash is very dark grey, the perfect alternative if you love black nails but want to mix it up. Charli Charcoal is charcoal and navy combined, bold and sophisticated with serious depth. Pick based on how dramatic you want to go, and remember that all four are significantly more interesting than beige or nude even though they're still neutral enough to work with everything you own.

What If You Want to Try Multiple Shades?

Get three.

Pick one purple or blue, one green, and one grey. That gives you options for different moods, different outfits, and different occasions without buying the entire collection and ending up with bottles you'll never use because they don't suit your skin tone or your lifestyle.

For example: Molly Mulberry + Saryne Sage + Giselle Grey covers you for events (deep dramatic purple), everyday (subdued green), and work (sophisticated deep grey). Or Piper Purple + Gia Green + Ashlee Ash if you want bolder options across the board (vibrant purple, deep forest green, very dark grey). Mix and match based on what you'll wear, not what looks pretty in the bottle.

Each bottle is $29 AUD and lasts for multiple manicures depending on how often you change your colour. Most people get 30 manicures per bottle if they're using two coats, which works out significantly cheaper than salon gel that costs $60-80 every 2 weeks and doesn't give you the flexibility to change colours whenever you feel like it.

Common Mistakes When Choosing Autumn Shades

Mistake 1: Choosing Based on Trends Instead of What Suits You

Just because purple is trendy this autumn doesn't mean it works on your skin tone. If you have warm undertones and you choose Piper Purple (which has blue or red undertones), it might look wrong on you no matter how well you apply it, and you'll end up frustrated thinking you did something wrong when the problem was the colour choice from the start. Stick with Perla Plum or Molly Mulberry if you want purple on warm skin, because the red undertones work better with golden skin tones.

Mistake 2: Buying Every Shade Because You Can't Decide

You don't need 13 bottles. You need 2-4 bottles that you'll use regularly. Buy based on your lifestyle and your skin tone, not based on collecting the entire collection, because half of them will sit unused while you wear the same three shades on repeat.

Mistake 3: Forgetting About Proper Prep

The best autumn shade in the world won't last if you skip prep. Push back cuticles, buff the nail surface, use a dehydrator or alcohol prep pads. Those steps aren't optional. They're what makes gel polish last up to 2 weeks instead of peeling in 3 days and making you think the product doesn't work when the problem was your prep, not the gel.

How to Apply Your Autumn Shade

One Step Gel is straightforward. Buff your nails. Push back cuticles. Use a dehydrator or alcohol prep pad to remove oil. Apply 2-3 coats of your chosen shade depending on the colour. Cure each coat for 60 seconds under our UV/LED lamp. Done.

No base coat needed. No seperate top coat needed unless you want extra shine or extended wear, in which case our No-Wipe Top Coat works perfectly over any of these shades.

If you have thin nails, use your trusty base of the 2in1 base coat, then use clear Builder Gel or coloured Builder Gel underneath your One Step Gel to add strength. If you have oily nails, use primer after the dehydrator to create a sticky surface that helps the gel adhere better. Those are the only additional steps you might need depending on your nail type.

When to Switch Your Autumn Shade

Change it when you're bored. Change it when the season shifts. Change it when you have an event coming up and your current shade doesn't work with your outfit. The advantage of doing your own gel at home is that you're not locked into one colour for 2-3 weeks because you paid $75 at the salon and you refuse to waste that money by removing it early.

Our Gel Remover works in under 5 minutes, which means you can remove Saryne Sage on Friday and apply Perla Plum on Saturday if you feel like having darker nails for a weekend event. That flexibility is the whole point of home gel systems.

Your Autumn Shade, Your Rules

The perfect autumn shade is the one you'll wear. Not the one that looks good on someone else. Not the one that's trending on Instagram. The one that suits your skin tone, fits your lifestyle, and makes you happy when you look down at your hands, which is surprisingly important when you're wearing the same colour for up to 2 weeks at a time.

Pick your shade, do your prep, apply your gel, and enjoy having autumn nails that last without the salon price tag or the commitment to colours that don't suit you. That's what this collection is for.
